AXIS Users Guide - An Introduction to AXIS 12
AXIS is a financial tool that helps users to analyze their
business, quantify risks and obtain information that allows them to
make informed decisions. The system is used for pricing, financial
projections, dynamic capital adequacy testing, valuation,
asset/liability work, stochastic analysis, experience and earnings
analysis, and more. AXIS was developed with speed, ease of use, and
functionality at the forefront.
Although it is a full-fledged 32-bit Windows application, AXIS
12 is still a direct descendant of previous DOS-based versions of
AXIS that have been distributed and supported by GGY since
1989.
AXIS is comprised of the following modules:
Regular life
Universal life
Par products
Disability
Annuity
Group Annuity
Asset/Reinvestment
DataLink
ScenarioTools
Earnings by Source
Stochastic Processing
GridLink
Each of these modules can be purchased separately. Users can
pick and choose the modules required to meet their needs and since
all the modules are fully integrated, results can easily be
combined.
AXIS DataLink is a special module of the AXIS system that links
AXIS to corporate databases. It exists as part of the AXIS
application and works with the all the liability modules to allow
users to create and maintain seriatim models for purposes of
valuation, financial projection, asset/liability work, stochastic
risk analysis, earnings and experience analysis, as well as
seriatim projections.
AXIS 11 was first introduced in August,
2003, and brought many new features, and improvements in the power,
functionality and ease of use of AXIS, including:
- Formula Tables allow the user to write their own code using
AXIS Script programming language to define the rates or values used
within specific tables
- System Formulas allow the user to design production batch
sequences using AXIS Script language and execute them as a type of
System Batch.
- New dynamic PPM Valuation options have been introduced in the
liability Modules which enable both the illustration assumptions
and the actuarial assumptions used in calculating the PPM reserves
to vary by valuation date.
- Multiple Reinsurance functionality to support simultaneous
modeling of reinsurance ceded under different treaties
- Expansion of the Liability module Cells to support the
definition and calculation of up to 6 different reserves
simultaneously
- Various enhancements to Distributed Processing, improving its
efficiency, fault tolerance, and application to different AXIS
processing options.
- Introduction and enhancement of the GridLink module supporting
multiple users of a shared processor farm used for distributed
processing of AXIS batch calculation runs in a secure production
environment.
- Expansion of functionality and use of Other Benefits including
the introduction of the Other Benefit object
- Introduction of Stochastic Processing options in AXIS (under
feature code control)
AXIS 12 is now our state of the art system,
and introduces new, enhanced functionality in many areas, such
as:
- Release of the Stochastic Processing Module (previously in Beta
release), including new functionality to support Embedded Scenario
Processing
- Enhanced GridLink options and utilities, providing improved
stability, flexibility and control over production environments
utilizing server farms and shared by multiple users
- Introduction of Reserve Method objects, facilitating the
definition and maintenance of reserve methodology calculation
options on a controlled and consistent basis throughout liability
models.
