Selecting and Viewing Tables
in AXIS Users Guide - Working With Tables

You may select, view and edit a table of any shape directly from within a Cell, or any other object that uses Tables.

Selecting a Table

To select a Table in a table selection field in the Cell assumption screen, right-click on the Table field, and choose Select ... from the action menu that is displayed. A Table Selection list window will be displayed with a list of all of the Tables of the appropriate Section found in the Dataset, showing the Table ID's, names and shapes. The initial list will only include Dataset tables of that Section, but checkboxes at the bottom of the window allow you to include Common Tables and omit Dataset Tables as you wish. The lists may be sorted by any of the three columns in the list, in ascending or descending order, by clicking on the appropriate column title.

You may also select a table by typing its name directly into the Table selection field on the assumption screen, or by copying and pasting the table name from another field.

Unselecting a Table

Selecting a different table automatically removes the previous selection if any. If you wish to specify no table selected in a Table Selection field, right-click on the Table field, and choose Select None from the action menu that is displayed. Alternatively, you may select the Table name by clicking on the Table Selection field, and then press the Del key on the keyboard while the Table Name is selected, or you may erase the Table Name by backspacing over it.

Opening and Viewing a Table

To see the contents of a selected Table, open the Table by double-clicking the Table Selection field. Alternatively, you may right-click on the Table Selection field and choose Edit from the action menu that is displayed. A window will open that displays the table contents and allows you to edit the contents. You may select a resizable, movable window, and maximize or minimize the window without closing it, by using the Windows-standard system menu icons at the right end of the Menu Bar or the right end of the window title bar, according to whether the table window is maximized or not.

Multiple Table editing windows can be opened simultaneously. You may select a different Table window or return a minimized Table window to the screen using the list of open windows in the Windows Menu on the Menu Bar.

If the Table being viewed is a Large Table of one hundred columns, then a "Full table" view will be initially displayed including all the columns starting at age zero with a horizontal scroll bar along the bottom of the window. You may choose among Full table, Partial table and Extract table views using the View Menu options in the Menu Bar. A Partial table view will show only the ten columns corresponding to the product ages selected in the Distribution Table on the Cell Assumption screen. Both the Full table and Partial table views will reveal the select and ultimate structure of the Large Table selected if any, and are fully editable.

You may also select the Extract view for a Large Table. With this view, the table values to be used for each selected product age will appear as an independent column in the view. The Extract view of a Large Table is not editable because this view maps ultimate values to more than one column, and there is no one-to-one relationship to the Large Table values at these durations.

Tables are automatically opened when they are generated from within a cell. They must be closed prior to exiting the cell, and you will have the choice of saving or not saving the contents. One or more tables selected in a Cell may be open while the Cell is being run and the current contents whether saved or not will be used for calculations.

Individual values in a table will be displayed rounded to two decimals (default setting) or to such other precision as you select using the Preferences options in the Format Menu on the Menu Bar while editing or viewing a Table. The full stored value will displayed without rounding in the Value field in the top left corner of the Table's window.

Zeros are normally displayed as blanks while viewing a Table. You may choose to display zeros instead of blanks for zeros, however, by using the Preferences option from the Format Menu on the Menu Bar while editing the Table.
