Calendar Year Reports

In order for EBS features to affect the calculation of Calendar Year Projections, you must enable the EBS option using the Earnings by Source tab in the Dataset Parameters dialogue. The Use EBS switch will:

  1. turn on the EBS “actual” decrements from the Policy Movement Transaction table used in both Traditional and Fund based EBS analysis,
  2. turn on "actual" fund movement transactions and fund value adjustments for UL and Annuity business using the Fund based EBS analysis,
  3. activate the calculation of the EBS component lines during cell processing, and
  4. allow you to obtain access to the EBS custom report lines when creating Calendar Year Reports.

In addition, your actual company code, as encrypted in your AXIS security key, must be authorized for EBS in at least one of Regular Life, UL, Participating Life, Disability or Annuity module in the current AXIS release you have installed. Contact GGY to confirm or to arrange for this licensing or to make special arrangements with respect to existing releases.

Vendor Supplied Reports

To illustrate the possible application of EBS calculations and to provide template report formats for further customization, AXIS includes the following vendor-defined Calendar Year Reports:

  • Vendor Defined Coverage Movement Report (separate reconciliations of movements in actual and expected inforce coverage count and inforce Face Amount for life insurance modules)
  • Vendor Defines DI Movement Report (separate reconciliations of movements in actual and expected active life and disabled life coverage count and inforce Monthly Income Amount for Disability module)
  • Vendor Defined RMA Report (actual to expected reserve movement analysis, plus a DLR movement analysis for Disability business)
  • Vendor Defined Fund Based RMA Report (general account and segregated/separate account fund build up, plus actual to expected reserve movement analysis for the present value of margins and PFADs)
  • Vendor defined Traditional EBS Report (full actual to expected analysis of earnings by source applicable to models using the Regular, Par, Disability and the Payout phase of the Annuity module)
  • Vendor Defined Fund based EBS Report (full actual to expected analysis of earnings by source applicable to models using the UL module, and the accumulation phase of the Annuity module)
  • Vendor Defined Composite EBS Report (full actual to expected analysis of earnings by source applicable to all modules)
  • Vendor Defined US GAAP DAC MA Report (actual to expected DAC movement analysis)
  • Vendor Defined US GAAP URR MA Report (actual to expected URR movement analysis)
  • Vendor Defined US GAAP Traditional RMA Report (actual to expected benefit reserve movement analysis, plus a DLR movement analysis for Disability business)
  • Vendor Defined US GAAP Traditional EBS Report (full actual to expected analysis of earnings by source applicable to models using the Regular or Disability module)

These template reports are found at the Office Level in any module, but you can select them at the Cell, Subfund and Fund levels as well. They have been generalized for all modules of AXIS, except for the Coverage Movement Report where a separate report format applicable to the DI module has been introduced.

Each report arranges the available detailed EBS report lines into a suggested format. The EBS sample reports show subtotals for each main component of gain, which are implemented using vendor-defined Calendar Year Row Formula objects. The user is free to create new reports and may use a copy of the vendor-defined reports as a starting point, moving and rearranging the vendor-defined report lines or formulas, or creating new lines and component totals using user-defined Calendar Year Row Formulas. The Vendor defined CYR Formulas and the calculated lines used in the Vendor-defined EBS Report have help text topics associated with them.

Customizing User Reports

When the EBS option is authorized and enabled, you may add EBS calculated lines and EBS Calendar Year Row Formula lines to existing or newly created reports. Within the Report Editor, the drop down box above the selection list in the left hand pane controls whether calculated and stored report lines are displayed or whether vendor defined CY Row Formula lines are displayed. When the calculated lines are selected, there are drop down list boxes in the lower left corner that control which group of calculated lines will appear in the selection list pane. The last box is labeled “EBS” and, similar to the other list boxes, offers the following 4 selection options:

  • No – display no EBS lines
  • Basic – display the basic list of EBS lines
  • Supplementary – display the supplementary list of EBS lines
  • All – display both basic and supplementary lists of EBS lines

Currently most EBS lines are found in the Basic section, which generally corresponds with those lines used in Vendor-defined reports. There are currently over 300 calculated EBS reporting lines in total, plus over 200 Vendor-defined CY Row Formulas for EBS reports, providing a fine level of detail supporting each of the main components of earnings or business movement statistics and the various movement reports.

Help Text will be made available for each line and each vendor-defined Calendar Year Row formula provided for EBS reporting, and the Reference Manual also provides Technical Specifications underlying the EBS Report format implemented.
