Article Detail:
This article details upcoming changes in the software requirements for the AXIS Actuarial System. These changes will be implemented starting with the February 2009 release.
Support for AXIS on Windows 2000 Ends
Starting with February 2009 release (12401001), AXIS will no longer run on the Windows 2000 Professional or Windows 2000 Server operating systems.
Microsoft has not produced service packs or bug fixes for Windows 2000 in four years. As a result, in many cases we are unable to provide our users with solutions to problems related to errors in the operating system itself. In addition our users cannot take advantage of the new technologies introduced in AXIS if they are not supported by Windows 2000.
New Required Component
A new component will be required and must be installed on every computer running AXIS starting with the February 2009 release (12401001).
.Net Framework version 3.5 SP1
Current versions of AXIS require Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 Redistributable to be installed to enable the Formula Tables Accelerator feature.
Starting with February 2009 (12401001) release .NET Framework version 3.5 SP1 will become a mandatory AXIS component .
It can be downloaded from this link:
Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 Bootstrap Installer
Note that this link downloads an installer from Microsoft that downloads the required components for your system. If you experience problems with this installer, please try downloading the full version of the .NET framework here:
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Full Version Download
Please note that the link above has been updated to point to the correct installation file on August 31st, 2009. If you have used this link before August 31st, 2009 then you have installed .NET Framework version 3.5 (but not SP1).
If you downloaded and installed AXIS 12.5.02.001 between October 16th and October 21st, 2009 it will not start on the machine with .NET 3.5 (pre-SP1) unless it is upgraded to .NET 3.5 SP1.
On October 21st, 2009 AXIS 12.5.02.001 has been repackaged to work with both .NET 3.5 and .NET 3.5 SP1 to provide the users who used incorrect download link with time to upgrade their computers to .NET 3.5 SP1. Please do so at your earliest convenience.
If you have installed .NET Framework 3.5 without service pack 1 (SP1), you may not be able to use Formula Tables Accelerator feature if AXIS is started from a network drive.
You can follow these steps to resolve the issue (you need administrator rights to perform the steps below).
1. Start command prompt.
2. Change to directory "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727".
3. Type "caspol.exe -q -m -ag All_Code -zone Intranet FullTrust" and hit "Enter".
4. Type "caspol.exe -q -m -ag All_Code -zone Trusted FullTrust" and hit "Enter".
This problem only applies to .NET Framework 3.5 and is already fixed by Microsoft in .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.
Please note that .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 can co-exist with .NET Framework version 1.1 on the same computer. This means that older versions of AXIS will still function properly.
In order to check which version of .NET Framework is installed on a given machine, you can run the attached program "707-NetVerCheck.exe".
