Various objects in AXIS are defined through Assumptions Screens that allow you to specify Option field values and Scalar values, and possibly to select from a variety of other linked objects in the Dataset, such as age based, row-specific or column specific tables, projection tables, reinvestment allocation and asset definition tables. You may export assumptions (the contents of Assumption Screens) to the AXIS Import/Export Database for further analysis or reporting, and for modification and importing back into AXIS.
Assumptions imported from the Import/Export Database are validated field by field and only valid values are used to either update existing object assumptions or to create new objects. Assumption fields not specified by an import process are left untouched in existing objects or set to the vendor default values for new objects. If problems are encountered with data during the Import process, then diagnostic messages will be stored in the System Log file.
You may export assumptions to the Import/Export Database directly from the viewed list of objects. You may choose to export assumptions for the current object in the list, or for a group of selected objects. Filters may be used to specify selected fields from each object's assumption screen to be exported, or if no filter is used, the entire assumption screen will be exported.
To export assumptions to the Import/Export Database, perform the following steps:
Create and save the appropriate assumption screen filter, if necessary.
Use the View Menu to display a list of the objects for which you wish to export assumptions.
If assumptions for more than one object are to be exported, select the appropriate items in the list.
Display the action menu for the object by right-clicking on the item list, or by clicking the Action button in the Action Bar. From the Action Menu select the Advanced submenu, then select the Export option and finally select Assumptions.
On the Export Assumptions form that is displayed:
select the appropriate path in which an existing Import/Export Database is located (if the path or the database file itself do not exist, they will be created for you);
select the name of the assumptions table within the database to hold the exported assumptions (see note), and if appropriate select the check box to append the exported data to the contents of an existing table (if the table does not exist an empty table will be created);
select the appropriate option for designating any filters to be applied to the object assumption screens;
click the Export button to proceed when all the above selections have been made.
