A context-sensitive Menu Bar always appears directly beneath the AXIS title at the top of the AXIS window. It gives you direct access to a large number of commands and actions through the drop down menus that appear beneath each menu item. Note that the Menu Bar contents will change according to the active window in the application.
The drop down menus are revealed either by clicking on the Menu item or by using the Windows standard keyboard shortcuts of the <Ctrl> key in combination with the "accelerator" key for each Menu. The "accelerator" key is always the underlined letter in that Menu item (e.g. "F" for File Menu).
The normal Menu Bar items are briefly described below:
File Menu
The File Menu items are generally the same once a Dataset has been selected as the current dataset. The File Menu includes both Windows standard options such as Print and Save, and also some special AXIS items. (Show me more details)
Edit Menu
The Edit Menu items are all Windows standard items to undo/redo editing actions, cut, copy and paste selected text or table data, and to search the current object to find a selected text string. <Ctrl> key shortcuts are supported for all Edit Menu commands. Only those commands which are supported in the currently active object window are active in the Edit Menu; the rest are grayed out.
View Menu
The View Menu allows the user to select the contents or adjust the format used for viewing objects within AXIS. The items in the View Menu change according to the contents of the currently active window.
When you first open a Dataset, or when no object is currently being used, the View Menu offers you the basic choices about which objects (e.g. Cell, Subfund, etc.) to work with interactively from the current Dataset. You may only work with one object type at a time, and that object will appear with a check mark beside it when the View Menu is opened. Selecting a new option, or opening a Dataset, will display a list of objects in the current Dataset of the type selected in the View Menu.
Once an object list is displayed, or an object is opened for editing, the View Menu changes to offer options relevant to the active window. For example, while viewing a Cell assumption screen, you may use the View Window to select options to customize the view, or to go directly to view the stored Calendar Year Projections for that cell, if any.
After a Cell has been run, the View Menu item is replaced by a Results Menu in the Menu Bar. You may use the Results Menu to select which report you wish to view.
Results Menu
While you are viewing any calculated report, including the Pricing Summary report after running a cell interactively, the Results Menu item replaces the View Menu on the Menu Bar. You may use the Results Menu to select which report or calculated table you wish to view.
Reports and Calculated Tables that are opened using the View Menu will remain open until they are closed and multiple windows may be opened at once. The Windows Menu will include a list of all opened results windows, and allow you to select which window is the active window, or to display multiple windows at once in tiled or cascade format.
Within the Results Menu, the Calendar Year Report item is used to display either the Standard Calendar Year Projections report or any Custom Report as has been selected for use with this cell. The Reports Action button may be used to unselect a Custom Report, edit the current report, or create a new one.
Module Menu
The Module Menu allows you to select which Module of AXIS you wish to use, among those that are installed and authorized by your AXIS license. The Module Menu only appears if a Dataset has been selected for use, and provided that no objects have been opened for editing.
Format Menu
The Format Menu is available when an object is being viewed to offer extended options to customize the format of the object assumptions, table contents or report being viewed. The choices offered depend on the object type. Generally there will be a Font option which allow you to select the size and style of font used in the view window. Note that the selection of font may affect your ability to see a view without scrolling, or the precision with which numeric data is displayed within available field sizes in a form. There may also be a Preferences item which will open a form to allow you to adjust various parameters such as unit scale (hundreds, thousands, etc.), number of decimals, currency symbol, column width, according to the object displayed. The Format Menu may also include display options which determine the contents of the display window and allow for more compact, condensed views.
Tools Menu
When a list of objects or a specific object is being viewed, the Tools Menu offers a list of tools and utilities that may assist the user in working with the object or objects being viewed. A scientific calculator tool is offered to assist with numerical calculations while defining assumptions or checking results. Within the Calculator window, you may select a simpler, basic calculator view if the scientific calculation options are not needed. Other special tools allow you to compare the stored projections of cells in two different Datasets.
Import/Export Menu
The options in this menu allow you to export cell assumptions or various reports, view, convert or compact the Import/Export Database and manage tables stored in the SOA standard format.
Window Menu
The Window Menu is consistent with most Windows applications and allows you to either shift the active window between multiple windows that are currently open, or to display multiple windows at once in either the Tile or Cascade format. In the list of open windows, the active window is indicated by a check mark.
Help Menu
The Help Menu gives you direct access to the AXIS Online Help System, which is a full, Windows-style help facility incorporating an expandable table of contents, a keyword search index, a text search "Find" option, hyperlinked help topics, and movable, sizable help topic windows. The Current Item option provides context-sensitive access to the appropriate Help topic where available. Note that context-sensitive help or Table of Contents access is also available by pressing F1. The About AXIS item in the Help Menu allows you to determine the build date and version number of the currently installed release of the system.
