A System Batch Process is a command to perform a sequence of predefined calculations or processes that can apply to specified Datasets and which can be left to run unattended until completion. A System Batch Process once defined can be named and saved, and then run with or without further change at a future time.
A System Batch Process can include various actions on objects within the current dataset or on other existing Datasets, and can operate in more than one module of AXIS. Since System Batch Processes apply to multiple Datasets, they are named and stored at the System level and not within each Dataset. Accordingly, they can be edited and run from within any Dataset and can be launched from outside AXIS.
System Batch Processes can be created, edited, copied, renamed, deleted and run from the list of System Batch Processes that is displayed when you select System Batch from the View Menu in the Menu Bar.
You will use a System Batch Wizard to create or edit a System Batch Process.
The following types of System Batch are currently available:
Dataset Recalculation
System Macro
Backup/Restore
Execution
System Formula

Dataset recalculation batch processes allow you to cause the recalculation of cells in multiple modules in multiple datasets. They are useful to insure that stored calendar year projections in all cells are present and up to date with assumptions and with currently selected Dataset parameters.
A Dataset recalculation batch can cause all cells to be recalculated or can be limited to just cells for which stored projections do not exist. You have the option to recalculate cells based on either seriatim in force data, Volumes Table data or both. If seriatim data is used, you also have the option to run all seriatim records in each Cell, or to specify a limited number of records, a defined issue year range or a sampling ratio.
For each Cell recalculated, you may request one or more of the available printed reports be produced. If seriatim data is recalculated you also have the option to specify the capture of selected seriatim results to be exported to Datalink.
System Macro is a Batch Process that executes other Batch Processes
is a predefined sequence. A System Macro can execute any Batch
Process within any Dataset available to the system, and can also
execute other System Batch Processes.
Backup/Restore batch is a batch that allows to
setup and execute the Backup and Restore dataset procedures. The
Backup/Restore batch can be called from the System Macro batch which can be
very useful when multiple datasets are restored and used in sequence.
Execution batch allows you to create a batch job
to run external applications.
The batch execution allows you to set the path of the file to execute, the starting directory, command line arguments, and lets you wait until a specified time or for a file to be created before executing.
System Formula batch is especially well suited
for production processes, and can be used to replace some external control
programs and AXIS batch jobs.
